#1 – Bad Breath – While bad breath might not be something that you would call bad dog behavior it is something that must be corrected.
The odor may be caused by food lodged in the dog’s teeth that can be remedied by giving your dog a dental chew treat. But, the odor could be from a health problem such as an abscess, tooth decay, gum disease, or even oral tumors. A dog that has chronic bad breath should be taken to a qualified veterinarian for a check up. Remember an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. |
Curbing these behaviors is going to take some discipline on your part. No I don’t mean discipline for the dog, though that comes later. The first type of discipline that I am taking about is for you; you must train your dog in the ways that you expect him to react to all situations.
Learning for a dog is exactly the same as it is for humans. We learn through repetition. You must have the discipline to correct any behavior that you don’t like immediately each and every time. You must be consistent. What is off limits today is off limits all of the time. Too many owners have good intentions and plan to train their dogs but just don’t keep it up. They get lazy and let the dog do what it wants and then wonder why they keep seeing bad dog behavior. |
